Methodist Episcopal Church

Image

Church built by Austin Kellogg and his brothers around 1837 and was completed in 1840. It is the first Protestant church in this section of the state. An addition was added at the front of the building some years later. The church was torn down around 1910. The Rev. W. Clyde Wilson states that this is not the oldest Methodist church in Wisconsin. John Clark, missionary to Green Bay, dedicated the first Methodist house of worship at Grand Kau-Kau-kin (i.e. Kaukauna) on the Fox River on September 15, 1832. John T. Mitchell of the Galena Mission dedicated the first Methodist meeting house west of Lake Michigan at Platteville, Wisconsin on December 22, 1833.
