View up the Eau Claire River from the Dewey Street Bridge. The view shows the dam and linen mill and the site of the lower sawmill (called the "steam mill"), which had recently burned down and can be seen in the lower left corner. The Milwaukee railroad bridge was still standing as of 1933 and beyond the bridge, on the left bank, was the "shingle mill," and still farther up was the "water mill." The mill barn with two cupolas is in thecenter, with Mount Tom at the left. All three of the mills were built and operated by the Eau Claire Lumber Company, then sold to and operated by the Mississippi Logging Company, and later sold to the North Western Lumber Company.
