Tourism Float

The Wisconsin float in the 1939 American Legion Convention parade features a log cabin and a boat and is decorated with small evergreen trees and boughs. There are two men and two women aboard; one of the men is dressed as a lumberjack and the other as a law enforcement officer. The woman on the right is standing and holding a very large fish, most likely a muskie. The signage on the side of the float encourages onlookers to "Visit Wisconsin This Fall. Fishing • Hunting • Colorful Scenic Tours." At the front of the float is a sign: "It's Milwaukee in 41!," a reference to the 23rd National Convention of the American Legion, which was held at the Milwaukee Auditorium in 1941. A man is looking down at the float from a second story window; there are two members of the American Legion at left and a man in a suit at right.
