Portrait of George Baldanzi, founding executive vice president of the Textile Workers Union of America (TWUA). He was deputy director for Operation Dixie, the Congress of Industrial Organization's (CIO) campaign to organize Southern textile workers. His rivalry with TWUA founding president Emil Rieve led to his removal from the union in 1952. After that, he joined the United Textile Workers of America (UTW) as national organizing director. After the merger of AFL-CIO in 1958, he became president of the UTW from 1958-1972.
