Flying Nun in a B-52

Image

The real flying nun, Sister Mary Aquinas Kinskey, O.S.F., in a B-52 simulator with Major Ralph M. Hanson. Sister Mary Aquinas was fulfilling her dream of flying a jet plane. The sister, whose Franciscan motherhouse was in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, learned to fly during World War II in order to teach her students. Later she was involved with pre-flight instruction for the military, and after the war she continued to fly. Sister Mary Aquinas introduced aviation into the science curriculum of various schools in Wisconsin and elsewhere.
