La Follette Hickory

A well-shaped hickory on the Wisconsin capitol grounds in winter, against the backdrop of the capitol building. The tree, estimated to be about forty to fifty years old at the time, is somewhat small because it was shaded for years by large elms. Although the history is unsubstantiated, the tree is thought to have been planted during one of Philip La Follette's three, two-year terms as governor.
