Wisconsin State Capitol (Third) Floor Plan

The floor plan of the second floor of the third Wisconsin Capitol as published in 1904 under the title "Program issued by the Capitol Improvement Commission." The Capitol Improvement Commission was organized prior to the 1904 fire to study the inadequacies of the Capitol and make recommendations. Because of the fire, the inevitable recommendation was an entirely new building — the present Capitol. The octagonal rooms on the North and South wings mark the extent of the building prior to the additions built in 1883. This expansion allowed the Supreme Court and the Law Library to move from its earlier location in the old North Wing to the North Wing addition. The court quickly outgrew this space, and it became the most vocal advocates of additional space in the years before the fire.
