Gilbert Ross

Portrait of Gilbert Ross, posing with a violin. He was the son of University of Wisconsin-Madison sociology professor Edward Alsworth Ross. Gilbert was an accomplished violinist who toured internationally. He taught music at Cornell University (1935), Smith College (1935-1942), UW-Madison (summer 1936), Yale University (summer 1960), and the University of Michigan (1942-1970). It was during his time at Michigan that he organized the Stanley Quartet, where he performed as first violinist.
