Bored travelers at General Mitchell International Airport, apparently taking their cue from a droopy travel poster advertising vacations in the sunny Caribbean. The Japan Airlines 747 in the background had been diverted from O'Hare after a snowstorm closed the Chicago airport. The 747 series, which was introduced by Boeing in 1970, is one of the most successful planes in aviation history. In 1999 the 747 received its own U.S. postage stamp, recognizing its place as one of the top three aviation achievements of the century-along with the Wright Brothers and Lindbergh's trans-Atlantic crossing.
