Two Girls

Image

Portrait of two girls. Both are unclothed except for a strip of fabric around their waist tied with a bundle of leaves. In her journal, Carrie describes Ceylon as "a perpetual Garden of Eden. Even the people seem to be lost in a time gone by, indicated by their continued use of leaves in place of clothing".
