Old Lighthouse

Image

View toward a man standing in front of the Barcelona Lighthouse, believed to be the oldest existing structure of its kind on the Great Lakes. The lighthouse is surrounded by trees, with buildings in the background. The Barcelona lighthouse was the first lighthouse to be powered by natural gas in the United States, and is believed to be the first public building to be powered with natural gas. It was decommissioned in 1859.
