Farmers Threshing

Numerous farmers participate in the threshing of grain. Left is the straw stack, center is the threshing machine and wagon to haul it to the granary, and right the grain is threshed into conical stacks. The conical stacks are bundles of grain as reaped by the self-binder and set up in shocks with the grain ends toward the center and the butt ends toward outside to shed rain. In threshing the farmers "changed work." They had breakfast at home, while noon and evening meals were taken at the farm where the threshing was done. It was a point of pride for the farmers' wives to set the best possible table.
