| Additional Information: | The Prospect Hill & Conrad Cottages Historic Districts: A Guide: "Architect Frank Kemp resided briefly in this house. The steeply-pitched gable roof with wide, sweeping eaves and sawtooth-shingled wall surfaces are of note. Kemp studied architecture in Milwaukee and St. Louis. He practiced in Madison, Janesville, and Beloit, and lived in Janesville between 1892 and 1896. He designed St. Mary's Catholic Church on Prospect Hill and a number of houses on Courthouse Hill. Between 1931 and 1960, 305 Eisenhower was the home of Nevada and Rose McCarthy. Nevada, a druggist, was an early collector of old Janesville photographs and views." This one-and-one-half-story-tall Shingle-Style-influenced Queen Anne Style house occupies a corner lot, has a multi-gable main roof, cut stone foundation walls, and a main façade that faces east onto Eisenhower Ave. The house was first surveyed in 1989, at which time its first story still retained its original narrow gauge wood clapboard siding. Since then, this story has been resided in vinyl clapboards. Its original wood shingle-clad second story and gable ends, though are still intact in 2025. |
