| Additional Information: | Two story shed roofed south bay; "rising sun" motif on ends of roof; two story north bay window; half-timber ornament in gable ends; rows of decorative shingles alternated with plain shingles ornament the surface; front cross gable projecting over facade. This was the home of Drew and Charles Straw of Straw and Murphy, prominent decorator store merchants, between c. 1893 and c. 1900. Later, Robert Leck, city attorney, lived here between c. 1930 and c. 1936. This 1890s house, an example of the front gabled subtype of the Queen Anne style, features unusual half-timber trim in the front gable, shingled gable ends and shingled bands alternating with horizontal siding on the upper story as well as an overhanging front gable and two-story bay window that create the irregularity of form and wall surface essential of the Queen Anne style in the city constructed in wood are the houses at 809 Clyman St. (43-28), 803 Clyman St. (43/27), and 188 N. Washington St. (55/18). |
