| Additional Information: | This building was built for the John F. Krueger store and saloon, later operated by Charles Krueger until around 1900. During the 1920s it was the Walter Arzberg veterinary office. This building has smoe historical interest as part if the Krueger store and saloon, a long-term and popular community business. Therefore, it contributes to the overall development of commerce in the Main Street Commercial Historic District. Built c. 1880 by John Krueger who rente dit for use as a millinery shop for most of the 19th century, this small one-and-a-half story building exhibits a plain projecting cornice above the storefront that features fluted iron columns flanking the recessed entrance with double leafed door and transom window. Multipaned store windows and paneled apron further characterize the storefront. Three windows on the upper facade have been bricked up. The John Krueger building is a commercial vernacular building exhibiting no particular historic ornament. Although this building is not architecturally significant, the Krueger building contributes to the historic architectural character of the proposed Main Street Historic District. |
