| Additional Information: | 1995- "Lewison Farmstead, VE27/4-6. This early clapboard-clad American Foursquare style house was probably built in the first decade of this century and has a standing-seam metal covered hip roof and three large wall dormers that are covered in staggered wood shingles. Windows are 1/1 double hung throughout and are paired on the first story of the side elevations. A full-width one-story front porch on the main west-facing facade also has a standing-seam metal-covered hip roof that is supported by Tuscan columns. Besides the house there is an intact gable-roofed frame construction tobacco barn to the north of the house, an altered shed-roofed frame construction corn crib is located to the east of the house, a large wood-clad gambrel-roofed dairy barn is located still further to the east along with several smaller outbuildings and a cement stave silo. This 118.5-acre farm is currently owned by Nicholai and Clarice Lewison and before them was owned by Otto and Alfred Lewison at least as far back as 1955, at which time it contained 177.46 acres. Although the house and several of the outbuildings associated with it still retain integrity, nothing about them or about their history suggests that they are other than ordinary, albeit, well-preserved examples of their kind and they are not believed to be potentially eligible for inclusion in the NRHP. It also remains to be seen whether or not these buildings are actually located within the APE of Option 5." - "USH 14 Transportation Study ", WisDOT ID #1646-07-00, Prepared by Timothy F Heggland (1995). |
