| Additional Information: | SEGMENTAL ARCHED WINDOWS W/KEYSTONES AND MOULDED HOODS. DENTICULATED CORNICE. Records regarding this building are limited. The first available Sandborn map (1884) indicates that the building was constructed as a meat market. The facility continued to serve in that role until at least 1919, during which time, tax records suggest that it was owned by the G. Puerner & Son Company. By 1925, a Sandborn map depicts the structure only as a store; however it does show that the one-story, west addition had been constructed. It could very well have remained a meat market since it was owned by the Stoppenbach Brothers, who also owned Jefferson's largest packing plant. By 1933, the facility was owned by Laura Steinburg, but it is not known what function the building served. Steinburg sold the building to Ed Buchta sometime between 1940 and 1945. Buchta owned the building into the 1950s. |
