The Lake Geneva Country Club was constructed in 1916, as a replacement of the original building which was was destroyed by fire. The builder was Richard Soutar. [A]. The L-shaped one and one half story Prairie School building of concrete block extends north and east on a high, flat rise of land overlooking Geneva Lake's south shore. A low gabled roofline with dormers and wide overhaining eaves, windows grouped in bands, and extensive use of geometric wood trim create a handsome design, appropriate to the site. Other, more recent buildings surrounding the main clubhouse reflect the 1916 design. The Country Club first opened in 1896 and is supposedly the oldest continuous 18 hole golf course in the U.S. Julian Rumsey designed the golf course. Individuals associated with this building include H. H. Porter, Julian Rumsey, George Walker, H. A. Beidler, N. K. Fairbank, George Isham, R. T. Crane, Wiley McCrea, H. G. Selfridge, S. A. Allerton, and F. R. Chandler, all of whom were founding members in 1896.
