| Additional Information: | Eyebrow in eave over door; stone window frames. The house was built for Harvey Schmidtman, secretary and treasurer of the Badger Specialty Company, a bookseller and stationer. The company was founded in 1900 as Theo. Schmidtman’s Sons. Management of the company passed through several generations of Schmidtmans, and by the 1950s the company was a paper wholesaler and producer of the “Car Ferry” brand of school supplies. Two other members of the Schmidtman family lived within the Lincoln Boulevard district as well: J.C. Schmidtman, one of the eponymous Theo. Schmidtman Sons (848 Lincoln Boulevard, AHI #58093); and Emil J. Schmidtman (510 Oak Street, AHI #234152). |
