| Additional Information: | Red brick colonial revival school with stone trim and militaristic references with additions. The 1981 map code is 52/34a on city engineers base map. The 2004 map code is 145/17a. Kimberly School on S. Commercial Street, Neenah's first schoolhouse was established in 1847 and the city school system was created in 1875 with 660 students. At that time, there were seven school buildings and the Superintendent was T.T. Moulton. Expansion of the school system followed the population growth of the city and another grade school was needed in the southern portion of the First Ward by the mid- to late- 1940's. This need was answered by the construction of the Wilson School in 1948. The school opened for students in 1949 and a large addition was added just three years later. The first principal was Miss Evelyn Van Beek. The school continues to serve as the Wilson Elementary School. |
