| Additional Information: | #650: Garage. This unusual example of the Colonial Revival features a large gambrel roof which extends down to cornice returns at a heavy entablature which separates the first from the second floor. The second floor is shingled at the intersecting gable ends and features a round bay at the point the roofs intersect as well as a pedimented gable roof dormer which projects out. Second floor gable end windows have carved hood moldings. The brick first floor appears foreshortened due to a cut stone beltcourse at the window level. A porte cochere supported by Ionic columns extends out from the front door. This house represents a unique v ariation on the Colonial Revival style in Wisconsin and, as such, is considered significant with the National Register standards. Following her husband's death in 1901, Mrs. Smalley was president of Smalley Manufacturing Co. |
