It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. This is a 180 foot through truss steel bridge originally built by the Milwaukee and Lake Winnebago railroad in 1896. The bridge is a hand crank operated swing bridge which hs been named the "Burger Swing Bridge" by the railroad (now owned by the Soo Line) as the Burger Boat Company mans the bridge for the railroad. This bridge represents one of the few remaining vestiges of the Milwaukee and Lake Winnebago Railroad Company which extended service to Neenah-Menasha in 1896. Overhead truss bridge It is also one of relatively few remaining hand crank swing bridges from this era and is, therefore, significant as a bridge type which has retained much of its original integrity. |
