| Additional Information: | #650: See District Survey Form. This irregular building consists of a main T Plan, two story, flat roofed brick portion with various frame/metal clad additions. A metal clad wall connects this main portion of what was the tin shop with a World War II era storage building featuring a gable roof and metal clad sides and roof. This building dates from about 1900 and, with their neighbors to the north (MN57-06, 08,09) are the oldest buildings on the site, predating the founding of the Manitowoc Dry Dock Commpany in 1902. Originally part of the Manitowoc Glue Company, the buildings were purchased by the then-named Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company in 1916 as the company startedd its pre WWI expansion program. It was used as a tin shop through the WWI era and then as the Light Metal Shop during WWII submarine construction. It is now used primarily for storage. |
