| Additional Information: | This one story commercial building has a flat roof and a rear addition. The exterior fabric is brick and glass and metal shingles on the upper level. Two metal endbrackets are left in the cornice. The front is higher than the building itself, like a parapet. Alterations have diminished the integrity of this storefront to the point where it has no architectural significance. In 1887 this site was occuped by a Boot and Shoe stop and a barber shop. Both were 1 story state roof buildings of frame construction with brick veneer. In 1892 the Boot and Shoe Shop was empty and a Jewelry Store was where the Barbar Shop had been. The cyclone destroyed these shops. Replacement building was 1 story brick and divided for 2 stores. In 1900 a jeweler and a baker occupied this spot. By 1912 a sewing machine shop and barber were here. In 1900 the roof was sltae and this changed to compsoite by 1927, when the building was no longer divided. A 1917 photo identifies Leader Printing Company as being here. The facade is unpainted brick with corbel brickwork at the cornice level. Windows have awnings over them. There is no historical significance attached to this building. It is not associted with any significant person, event or development in the city. |
