| Additional Information: | THIS TWO-STORY, T-SHAPED HOUSE FEATURES A STONE BASEMENT, A BRICK EXTERIOR AND INTERSECTING SLOPING ROOFS OF TERNEPLATE. CORNICE RETURNS IN THE REAR GABLE, A SIDELIGHTED ENTRANCE DOOR, AND PLAIN LINTELS AND SILLS ARE ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS OF THIS RESIDENCE. A THREE-SIDED BAY WINDOW AT THE FRONT FACADE LIES NEXT TO THE LATER ADDED, TWO-STORY, DECKED, ENCLOSED PORCH, WHICH IS SUPPORTED BY FLARED COLUMNS ON BRICK BASES. THE CONSTRUCTION DATE FOR THIS BUILDING OCCURRED BEFORE 1884. (SEE BIB. REF. A). ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: THIS BUILDING IS IMPORTATANT TO THE ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY OF PLATTEVILLE AS A SURVIVING REPRESENTATIVE OF EARLY RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE IN THE CITY. ALTERATION TO THE STRUCTURE HAS DIMINISHED ITS ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE. THIS HOUSE WAS DEMOLISHED BETWEEN 1976 AND 2005. |
