Additional Information: RECTANGULAR BAYS, BRACKETS, AND SEGMENTAL WINDOW LINTELS GIVE THIS GABLE ELL FORM HOUSE A DECIDEDLY ITALIANATE APPEARANCE. IT IS A FRAME, TWO-STORY HOUSE ON A STONE FOUNDATION WITH A SLOPING ROOF THAT HAS A RECTANGULAR BAY EXTENSION TO THE EAST WITH A SHED ROOFED ENCLOSED PORCH AND A RECTANGULAR BAY WITH A DECKED PORCH SUPPORTED BY DORIC COLUMNS PROJECTING TO THE SOUTH. CORNER BOARDS AND FREIZE BOARDS ARE ALSO FEATURED. BRACKETS AND SHINGLES IN THE WEST GABLE, TWO RECTANGULAR BAY WINDOWS TO THE WEST DECORATED WITH SCROLLS, BRACKETS AND SPIRAL MOLDING, LONG TWO OVER TWO WINDOWS, AND PROJECTING SEGMENTAL ARCHED WINDOW HEADS CHARACTERIZE THIS SUBSTANTIAL HOUSE.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:

THIS HOUSE WAS THE RESIDENCE OF HENRY GRIBBLE, THE OWNER OF A LOCAL DRY GOODS STORE. HE LIVED THERE FROM ABOUT 1880 (?) TO 1958. (A)

ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:

SIMILAR IN FEELING TO THE FRONT GABLE FORM FRAME HOUSE AT 1290 WEST CAMP ST. (GT 1-7), THIS HOUSE IS IMPORTANT TO THE ARCHITECTURAL VARIETY OF THE CITY AS THE BEST WOODEN REPRESENTATIVE OF THE GABLE ELL FORM.
