NOTES
Additional Information:THIS COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE HAS STONE FOUNDATION AND IS COVERED WITH TIN. ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENT: THE FARM SUPPLY BLDG. WHICH WAS ONCE OPERATED AS A TOBACCO WAREHOUSE, IS A 2 STORY TIMBER FRAMED STRUCTURE RESTING ON A STONE FOUNDATION. THE EXTERIOR WALLS ARE COVERED WITH PRESSED METAL WHICH SIMULATES A BRICK PATTERN. REGULARLY SPACED RECTANGULAR WINDOWS PIERCE THE WALLS. A ONE STORY FRAME ADDITION AND LOADING DOCK PROJECT FROM THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE STRUCTURE. THIS STRUCTURE IS ARCHITECTURALLY INTERESTING BECAUSE OF ITS METHOD OF CONSTURCTION, WHICH EMPLOYED HEWN TIMBERS, AND AS AN EXAMPLE OF A TYPE OF STRUCTURE. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: ACCORDING TO LOCAL SOURCES AND SANBORN PERRIS MAPS (B), THIS WAS ORIGINALLY A TOBACCO WAREHOUSE. THE STURCTURE IS LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE RAIL LINE AND IN A SENSE REFLECTS BOSCOBEL'S IMPORTANCE AS AN AGRICULTURAL SERVICE AND TRADE CENTER. IN THE LATE NINETEENTH CENTURY A NUMBER OF GRAIN ELEVATORS AND WAREHOUSES WERE LOCATED IN THE VICINITY OF THE TRACKS. THE TOBACCO WAREHOUSE IS AN INTERESTING AND IMPORTANT REMINDER OF THIS EARLIER PERIOD. TOBACCO WAS PURCHASED FROM AREA FARMERS, AGED, SORTED, PACKED AND THEN SHIPPED TO BUYERS (OFTEN IN THE EAST) VIA RAIL. THIS BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED BEFORE 1902, AND WAS RENOVATED AS A TOBACCO WAREHOUSE IN 1902.
