| Additional Information: | An L-shaped (with rear additions) clapboard and shingle residence, two stories in height. Features of the structure include gable ornaments, a bay window, and detailed veranda. Ramstad was a millwright at several lumber mills in Eau Claire. He came to the United States with his mother and brothers in the 1860s. The house remained in the Ramstad family until 1974. 2016- "The Ramstad House is a fairly modest interpretation of the Queen Anne style relative to size, but is quite ornate with decorative detailing in the dormers, gables, porch and bay windows. The house is paired with the home to the east, which Andrew's brother John also built in 1893. This house, located at 633 Wisconsin Street extends the asymmetry of the Queen Anne style between the two homes. Ramstad, a millwright, immigrated from Norway in the 1860s with his mother and brothers. He built this house in this predominately Scandinvaian neighborhhod where the First Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran church was located across the street at the end of the block. The house remained in Ramstad ownership until 1974." -"Eau Claire Landmarks: Designated Historic Properties in Eau Claire, Wisconsin", Eau Claire Landmarks Commission, P.O. Box 5148, 2016. |
