| Additional Information: | Eclectic Resurgence: Tudor Revival two and one half story house. Lower level is brown shingles; upper cream stucco with half timbering. Porte Cochere. This may be a remodeling of an earlier house, but as this was recorded as farm lands into the 20th Century it is difficult to tell. There was a house here in the early 20th Century. c.f. 1148 Brewster, probably the former horse barn with this property. This land (including 1148 Brewster) was owned as early as 1873 by Clinton Babbitt, who came to Beloit in 1853, was an Alderman three times, served as Postmaster, as Secretary of Wisconsin Agricultural Society, and as U.S. Representative from the First District in 1891-1893. Probably Babbitt's last home. |
