NOTES
Additional Information:Hip with cross gable porch flat cornice returns and oculus in gable ends; front and north side cross gable; two story gable roofed rectangular bay wth three sided bay window on south side; triangular pediment shaped stone widow heads with incised floral design overlong narrow windows; one bay open entrance porch with carved square posts on paneled bases; double leafed entrance door; side porch of similar design in south angle of house.

Having retained its architectural character, this Victorian brick house is a good example of a builder constructed house influenced by the Italianate style.

The Gilbertson House is an excellent example of vernacular brick residential architecture in La Crosse.

Andrew Gilbertson, a laborer, first lives at the northeast corner of 8th and Winnebago in 1876. This later becomes 727 South Eighth and still later 729 South Eighth.

Apparently this house was brick veneered sometime after it was constructed as a frame house.
