NOTES
Additional Information:2024: As of a 1923 description of the business district, this building was referred to as an annex to the G. W. Rantz Store, however, it was fully occupied by the office of the Western Union Telegraph Co., a separate entity and, therefore, based on that information, as well as a historic photo of its separate storefront, including entry, it is counted as a separate building, A 1920 newsbrief noted that the Western Union Telegraph Co. was moving to it summer headquarters into the building that was formerly used as a barbershop (Gaffney & Hebard), indicating that the building was there by no later than 1919. An “annex” is also noted in association with the Eagle Drug Store as of 1915; however, based on an early photo, as well as a Sanborn map that depicts a frame building east of the drug store, that would not be the same building. By no later than 1948, the building housed the Eagle Gift Shop. At some point between the 1950s and 60s, the stone veneer was added and by no later than 1974 the building became part of the corner building and lost its separate entry. Though built separately, for the purposes of the National Register Nomination, this is considered one building with 246799.
