| Additional Information: | This multi-story industrial complex was constructed in 1917 with a c.1970 addition. The factory served as the Libby, McNeil, & Libby Company’s condensed milk factory (which was purchased by the Carnation Company in 1946). The complex is irregular in plan with a concrete foundation, red brick walls, and a flat roof. The eastern portion of the building (consisting of two 3-story masses with 1-story wings) was the earliest to be constructed in 1917. This portion of the building features original banks of multi-pane factory windows separated by brick pilasters with Art Deco-inspired caps. The large, 1-story rectangular mass at the western end of the building was constructed last, in the early 1970s and is a long, low production building with no visible windows. |
