| Additional Information: | 2018- The Hayton Road Bridge (WisDOT structure ID P-08-040) is located in the Town of New Holstein, Calumet County. It was probably built during 1900-1910. Neither the engineer nor the contractor are known. The structure is a rubble-limestone bridge with 3 nearly identical, segmental arches of about 13 foot span and 3 foot 9 inch rise. The east elevation has been widened about 12 feet with concrete arches built over corrugated metal pipes. Originally the bridge the wood railings, the vertical members of which were wood posts inserted into a pair of iron rings in the voussoirs of each arch. The rings remain, but the original railings have been replaced by metal railings and a concrete coping. The bedding plane of the bridge’s limestone is about 5 inches thick, which is consistent with other locally quarried limestone construction. The arches spring from near the waterline. The bridge’s total length is about 47 feet. Extensive concrete addition to the east elevation. stone arch bridge |
