NOTES
Additional Information:THE ADOLPH MARKING FARMSTEAD WAS PURCHASED FROM MELVIN B LEE IN 1949 BY ADOLPH MARKING, WHO HAD BEEN FARMING IN THE AREA SINCE 1930. MARKING WAS WELL-RESPECTED IN THEA AREA AND WAS THE CLERK AT THE PLEASANT VALLEY SCHOOL IN THE 1950S. A SIGNIFICANT JUMP IN PROPERTY TAXES ON THE PROPERTY OCCURRED BETWEEN 1956 AND 1961, SUGGESTING THAT IT WAS IN THIS LATE 1950S PERIOD THAT MARKING IMPROVED THE PROPERTY WITH THE LARGE, MODERN DAIRY BARN, THE HOUSE AND PERHAPS SEVERAL OF THE OUTBUILDINGS. THIS PROPERTY IS POTENTIALLY ELIGIBLE FOR THE NRHP UNDER CRITERION A AS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF A MID-20TH CENTURY FARMSTEAD IN LA CROSSE COUNTY.
