| Additional Information: | This early twentieth century residence is two stories, plus attic in height. The gable end of the house is accented by simple bargeboards, which highlight a bullseye window. Previously surveyed in 1982 with map code 42/2. March 2005-This two-and-one-half-story, vinyl-sided, front gable residence rests on a fieldstone foundation. A one-story, full-width, shed-roof porch is located on the primary (west) elevation and features square posts with applied ornamentation. This elevation also has a simple bargeboard resting on decorative brackets. Square bays are found on the side elevations and a gabled wall dormer is located on the north face. Fenestration consists of twelve-over-one and multi-light, double-hung, wooden sash windows. Built circa 1892, city directories identify laborer John Murphy as the original resident. Miss Kitty Murphy occupied the house by the turn-of-the-century until 1906/07, when it was vacant. By 1909, Hawley W. Wilbur, manager of the Wilbur Lumber Company Return Department, owned the property. Beginning in 1917, Otto & Florence Schroeder occupied the residence until at least 1931. Directories list Florence as president and Otto as secretary-treasurer-manager, of the Waukesha Cigar Company. In 1942, the residence was vacant and, by 1955, heating contractor Lester Erdmann owned the property. |
