| Additional Information: | This L-Plan Two-Story Commercial Vernacular form building was originally the American House Hotel, which Sanborn Maps show was extant before 1894.The building has a hip-roofed main block and a gable-roofed Ell and its original walls are clad in cream brick. The building occupies a corner lot and the most significant alterations to it have been replacement of the original windows and the resurfacing of the south-facing main facade of the hip-roofed block with stone veneer. Original windows have segmental arched lintels, and the ell's spindlework porch is either original or else has been in place for many years. The building has also housed a drug store. 2019 - appearance unchanged This two-story commercial vernacular building was constructed c.1890. It is located at the intersection of Fond Du Lac Avenue and Main Street at the center of the village’s historic commercial area. The primary entrance is situated on the northwestern corner of the building, facing the intersection. The building has an L-shaped form with a hipped roof core and side-gabled wing. The larger hipped roof section is heavily altered with faux stone veneer cladding and a large storefront window on the primary façade. Window openings on the second story feature segmental arches, but the windows have been replaced with one-over-one vinyl sashes. The side-gabled wing is clad in brick exterior. A shed roof one-story pent roof porch extends across the width of the wing with turned wood supports and decorative brackets. Based on previous WHPD photos, the roof previously had a mansard form. |
