| Additional Information: | Rising from a stone foundation, this two-story residence has a small, hipped-roof porch situated within the southwest ell juncture and features replacement, wooden posts. The symmetrically arranged, segmentally-arched windows with one-over-one-light sashes, are topped with soldier brick lintels and stone sills. Beyond the main block to the rear are two modern additions. The mid-section, which is also constructed of brick, is topped with a large, sloping roof and features modern windows. The westernmost wing is sheathed with cedar siding and appears to consist of garage space along the first level and living quarters within the second floor. Tax records indicate this house may have been a part of the Gerlach & Steger holdings, which operated the community's brewery. Between 1890 and 1891, the parcel with the subject house was separated from the remaining brewery property and was owned by Edward Boehmer, whose mother was a Steger. He and his wife Marcella remained in the house until at least 1936. Beginning in the 1940s, the home served as the Methodist church parsonage. In 1986, the previously extant garage and breezeway were razed by a private owner and a new garage and addition were added to the east side of the house. The house currently functions as a bed and breakfast. |
