| Additional Information: | Extending from the rear of the original block is a large, concrete block addition. The structure served as the office and residence for C.J. Rice, who's business was that of real estate, insurance and loans.By 1916, Rice had apparently changed careers as he operated the Heating Power & Equipment Co.; he still resided at the subject structure. Rice continued to live there until 1933, when William F. Krause (of the funeral home business) purchased the building. The sizeable, two-story portico was likely a result of a 1933 renovation the structure underwent as it was converted into a funeral parlor. In 1939, an addition was made to the rear at a cost of $4,000. The building functioned as a funeral home for the next few decades. |
