NOTES
Additional Information:Paul Vogt was President of the Vogt and Kelian Sash and Door Company. John Kempf was Sec. Treas. of the John J. Kempf Shoe Company. Paul Vogt was the builder. Locally designated 11/12/85. Architectural Statement: The Queen Anne style house is a two story frame structure with multiple gables. It is an asymmetrical design, with the entry located to the north side of the primary west front gable. The openings are rectangular double hung sash, some of which are located on beveled corners of the building, in typical Queen Anne fashion. The exterior is sheathed in a combination of horizontal wood siding and wood shingles. The first and second floors are separated from each other by a wide horizontal band of shingles which flares out just above the ground floor windows. The gable ends are also shingle covered and ahve decorative barge boards. Carved brackets and ornamental window hoods complete the embellishment of the house. The porch appears to be a later replacement of the original. (1982 photo - 46/9). The house is a significant example of the Queen Anne sytle because of the consistency of well executed details adorning it, such as the ornamented barge boards, window hoods, and corner brackets. The floral character of this detailing is unusual for Queen Anne styling. The house was constructed in 1889 by and for Paul Vogt, a highly respected contractor/builder of German ancestry. Vogt was responsible for the construction of many buildings in the area, mostly commercial and residential structures.
