Summary
East Troy Electric Railroad Historic District
A corridor beginning west of Division Street in East Troy and ending in Indianhead Park in Mukwonago in East Troy and the Village of Mukwonago, Walworth and Waukesha Counties
The East Troy Electric Railroad Historic District is a corridor of approximately 7.2 miles of active electric rail line, significant in the area of Transportation. The historic district is a significant corridor featuring resources related to the operation of the East Troy Electric Railroad as an electric railway.
The resources include a stock of rail cars, locomotives, and maintenance cars associated with the railroad or its parent company, The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Company (TMER&L). The ETER, as an active line, is all that remains of this once prominent transportation network that provided both passenger and freight services throughout much of southeast Wisconsin. It is also one of few extant electric rail systems in the Midwest and hosts a large number of restored rolling stock in active use by the railroad museum.
