Mount Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church is a significant ecclesiastical example of the Late Gothic Revival style of architecture. The house of worship has a largely cruciform plan and irregular massing. It displays character-defining features that include masonry construction, parapet endwalls with coping, pilasters, and stone quoining. The windows are highlighted by either Gothic- (or pointed-) arch or rectangular openings that carry stained-glass windows designed and executed by the renowned Conrad Schmitt Studios of Milwaukee. The interior of the church retains the original plan and extensive woodwork, including the Manitowoc Church Furniture Company-manufactured pews and other furniture typical of a functioning Lutheran church. While the 1958 Educational Youth Building wing was not executed in the Late Gothic Revival style like the church, the general footprint of the wing was conceived at the same time as the church. Despite the Modern Movement styling, the education wing is setback from the church, the roofline is lower, was sheathed in the same material, allowing the wing to blend in to provide for a more cohesive appearance. Mount Hope Lutheran Church stands as among the best examples in West Allis of the Late Gothic Revival style as applied to a house of worship.
