Obey Near Ground Zero
Wisconsin Congressman David R. Obey (in blue shirt) standing at the intersection of Vesey Street and the West Side Highway near the World Trade Center site. In the background to Obey's right is World Trade Center Building 6, which was damaged during the collapse of the twin towers, and to his left, the Verizon Building, which experienced major damage. Obey was at the site because of his position as ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, the committee for authorizing emergency federal funding. |
