Obey and Young at Ground Zero
Florida Congressman Bill Young (left) and Wisconsin Congressman David R. Obey, respectively chairman and ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, touring the World Trade Center site a few days after the 9/11 attack. Young and Obey were there to survey the damage prior to authorizing federal funding for the recovery effort. The two are thought to be standing at the corner of Vesey Street and West Side Highway in front of the ruins of 6 World Trade Center and the North Tower. In the center background is the Cass Gilbert-designed 90 West Street building. Although damaged by the collapse of the Twin Towers, 90 West Street was restored, winning an award for its preservation. |
