Congressman Bill Young of Florida (left), chair of the House Appropriations Committee, and Congressman David R. Obey of Wisconsin, the ranking committee Democrat, toured the World Trade Center site a few days after the 9/11 attack to see the damage first-hand. They are standing at the intersection of Vesey and West, between 6 World Trade Center and the Verizon Building, both of which were heavily damaged by the collapse of the twin towers. The 6 WTC building was ultimately razed; the Verizon Building, an architectural landmark, was restored.
