Patriotic Letterhead
Colorfully decorated letter received in the office of Wisconsin Governor James Lewis from Isaac Joiner of the Veterans Reserve Corps stationed in Alexandria, Virginia. He wishes to transfer to a Wisconsin regiment. The letterhead, which appears to have been hand tinted, depicts a large body of Union soldiers, some on horseback, on parade. Also includes the lyrics of the song, "Battle Cry of Freedom", written in 1862 by American composer George Frederick Root. |
