Buggy Stuck in the Mud
A buggy is mired up to the axles in mud. The horses have been unharnessed and led away. Hand-painted signs are on the fence in the background. This image was entered in a 1898 competition sponsored by the League of American Wheelman to identify the nation's worst roads conditions. The purpose of the competition was to gather evidence of the need for better roads. |
