Madison UFW Benefit at People's Park
A benefit gathering at James Rector People's Park to support the United Farmworkers (UFW) grape boycott. The UFW sign, with its eagle symbol, posted in the foreground says, "Viva la Huelga/Viva la Causa" (Long Live the Strike/Long Live the Cause). Above it is a sign that says, "Comida Mexicana" (Mexican Dinner). In the background, young people are partaking in the benefit and a UFW sign stands with the message, "La Lucha es la Fuerza/ Obreros Unidos" (The Struggle is the Strength - United Workers). Grape boycotts in Wisconsin were organized by the local farm-worker labor union, Obreros Unidos (United Workers), an independent farm worker labor union effort in the 1960s.
