Wisconsin Section of Hennepin's Map
A reproduction of the Wisconsin portion of Louis Hennepin's 1698 map showing the location of the Ho-Chunk Tribe, the Hurons, the Illinois as well as other Indian tribes in the region. Lake Superior is labeled "The Upper Lake," Lake Michigan is "Lake of the Illinois." Rivers in the region are shown, including the Mississippi south to the confluence of the Ohio. It also shows the location of St. Anthony Falls and the Fort of Miamis. The Relief and some of the Indian settlements are shown pictorially. |
