Color lithograph. The upper caption reads "Child Slaves of New York." The image shows a stereotypical Middle Eastern man restraining a white male in uniform. Another Middle Easterner points from behind a table with a banner that reads "Kaldah the Mystic." Behind him is a white female in fur stole and hat. The bottom caption reprints the line from the play, "He is the detective, -- You know what to do!" Charles E. Blaney, a successful director and producer as well as playwright, often co-wrote with Charles Dazey and often turned successful plays into novels. "Child Slaves" includes an Eskimo character and a transparent takeoff of Sherlock Holmes in the character of the boy detective Homer Sherwood. |
