North Pinckney Street

Ellsworth Block on North Pinckney Street between East Washington and East Mifflin Streets as seen from the Capitol Park. Storefronts include the Dry Goods Bazaar, Singer Sewing Machines, the Hollister & Wittman Pharmacy, the Ellsworth Grocery Store, and the Northwestern Business College. Men are standing in front of the buildings near a horse-drawn wagon. The foreground provides a close-up of the iron fence constructed around the Capitol Park that was erected in 1873. As constructed, the fence represented a less expensive version of the original designed by Stephen V. Shipman, the architect who also designed the Capitol dome. |
